Recently the Danish National Board of Industrial
Injuries has funded two literature reviews on the evidence of a causal
association between computer work and carpal tunnel syndrome and
musculoskeletal diseases in the neck, shoulder, arm and hand. The
organisational framework to assure a high scientific standard of these and
other coming reviews was established by the Scientific Committee of DASAM
(Dansk Selskab for Arbejds- og Miljømedicin).
The background and organisation of the work will be presented, and the
literature reviews will be presented by the authors and discussed in
relation to aspects of workers compensation and prevention. Representatives
of the National Board of Industrial Injuries and the labour market parties
will take part in the discussions.
The seminar will also discuss the impact of computer related
musculoskeletal pain and disorders in terms of functional impairment and
sick leave.
Another aspect is the prevention of musculoskeletal pain among computer
workers. Professor David Rempel, University of California, will present a
review of workplace interventions to prevent pain and disorders among
computer users.
