TEAM AND MANAGEMENT IS AN INDEPENDENT
PROJECT GROUP AT THE NATIONAL RESEARCH CENTRE FOR THE WORKING
ENVIRONMENT (NRCWE).
The project group examines the relationship between team organisation,
management and occupational health, e.g. through a large intervention
project
‘Managing Teams’.
Many factors are involved with respect to the occupational health, and
management is one of them. Different studies show that poor communication
and lack of feedback and support from management may lead to reduced
well-being and in some cases increase stress among employees.
Through recent years, a large part of the labour market has introduced team
organisation. However, research-based knowledge is lacking with respect to
how restructuring and team organisation influence employee health and
well-being.
Effective management is of great importance in developing effective teams.
Effective teams may help to improve the competitiveness, increase
productivity, reduce sickness absence, attract and retain qualified
employees, and improve the working environment and ensure employee
well-being. It is thus important that managers are capable of solving the
particular problems and challenges that team organisation raises. Education
and training of team managers can be an important part in this process.
