The main purpose of this PhD-project is to explore how a sustainable safety culture can be developed and maintained within a multinational production company.

Specifically, the study will be based on the following questions:

  1. What does it take to develop a sustainable safety culture in a multinational production company?
  2. How do the management's priorities, approaches, understandings and actions affect the safety at the work place?
  3. What barriers and opportunities are there in everyday life, that relates to the specific safety practices in both day and night shifts in the company's production departments?

The uniqueness of this PhD - project is that the researcher (anthropologist) will be included as part of the company's production team (day and night shifts) to explore the process from the employees' perspective, while at the same time following the work in the company's safety organisation.

The project runs in the period 01/04/2013 to 31-03-2015.
